Members of the Emerald Ridge HOSA participated in HOSA’s 41st annual International Leadership Conference, June 27th-30th, 2018, in Dallas, Texas.

HOSA-Future Medical Professionals, the largest international organization for middle school, high school, and post-secondary/collegiate students with an interest in the health professions, held its 41st annual International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas June 27th-30th, 2018. Nearly 10,000 health science students, advisors, government and private sector leaders, judges, family members, and guests gathered at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center to compete, learn, network, and celebrate HOSA’s 41st annual conference with members from across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and guests from China. Delegates took advantage of four exciting general sessions, 130 educational symposiums, 114 exhibits from companies, universities, non-profit sessions, and much more! Keynote speaker, Rick Rigsby PhD, delivered a memorable speech on the lessons he learned from a third-grade dropout, during the opening session, where HOSA awarded $480,492 to 70 members.

Our Emerald Ridge students participated in a variety of HOSA’s recognition events. Three members - Yeena Kee, Alyssa Leiker, and Nicole Miller, all received bronze awards in the Barbra James Service Award. In the Barbra James Service Award, these members needed to have anywhere from 100 to 175 hours of medical related volunteer work. Taylor Koch received an award for creating our chapter’s HOSA Happenings, an article that provides information to members about the HOSA chapter and its achievements, as well as health related information. Roslyn VanOrder received a plaque for the Outstanding HOSA Chapter. To receive this award, she had to create a book that documents all of the chapter’s events and accomplishments.
